Switcharoo!

If you follow Becky and me on Facebook or Twitter then you know that we are expecting our second bundle of joy. Becky is currently thirteen weeks along and has been having quite the pregnancy. I am guessing that it’s going to be a girl simply by all the trouble she has been giving us already haha.

Anyways, Becky has been pretty drained and is unable to shoot a long wedding anymore. Therefore I will be finishing the year off with some of my awesome photographer friends by my side to take Becky’s place.

This news also caused us to reconsider what we will be doing for our future. We have decided that I will continue to shoot weddings while Becky focuses on raising our ever growing family and being the best mother in the world to our children. With that being said, I will be shooting solo down the road and we have gone about making one final re-branding: First was Michael Alan Photography, then was Paramour Photography and now it is just going to be plain ol’ Michael Alan Bielat. I will be focusing on portraits and high end wedding photography.

I am currently in the process of switching things over and already have a new website up and running. The link is www.MichaelAlanBielat.com so please modify your bookmarks and links accordingly. It is currently just a copy of this existing blog site but I will be slowly changing things over. Same great photography, same great service, It is just that the business will be operating under my name with myself as the sole photographer from here on out.

I want to thank you all for your support and understanding and really excited for what the future will bring.
Michael

A Special Portrait Promotion { Buffalo Portrait Photographers }

I’m a fortunate mother in that I have a husband who has an amazing ability to take photos of our son. I also realize that not everyone has this opportunity. As photographers, we photograph a portrait session and then have parents come to our home studio to pick out the photos that they want printed. However, we see all the time that there are more photos that our clients would love to have but simply cannot afford. As a mother, it would kill me to know that there were photos of my son that I’m in love with but cannot have and that will be gone for good.

Buffalo Portrait Photographers | Paramour Photography

Because of this, Michael and I have decided to do a special portrait promotion. For the price of $500, you will receive a photo session with us along with a disc of all the images (high-rez) and a copy release form. These images will be large enough so that you can also blow them up to any size you would like. We are hoping that with a special like this that you will be able to capture this special time in your life.

As a fairly new mom myself, I realize that time is flying! I am a person who continually puts off capturing photos of myself for various reasons. For example…I still need to lose the baby weight, or I don’t like the way my hair is and want to grow it out. I am realizing now (unfortunately, later rather than sooner) that that these are not good excuses. I wish I had more photos of my big pregnant belly or have other photographer friends of ours shoot our family portraits. I really miss these special times in my life and have very few photos to remember those times by. I have very few photos of myself with my son in the early days for fear of how I looked. Now I regret that. From experience, I am urging you to capture the moments. This promotion is valid for ANY type of portrait session. Maternity, family, newborn…you name it, just give us a call at 716-491-8854 and book your session today.

Sincerely,
~BECKY

A photo says you were happy and I wanted to catch that. A photo says, you were so important to me that I put down everything else to come watch

Film is in the Air { Buffalo Film Photographers }

There is something to still be said about film, even in this digital world…

I have been a photographer for over thirteen years now and am lucky enough to have learned on film and in the darkroom. Unfortunately, this is something that not every photographer can say these days. Film still has certain elements to it that make it very much alive.

First off, film delivers exactly the color and aesthetic that I want. No post-processing, no photoshop, no nothing… I see photographers everywhere spending hours behind their computer trying to make their pictures look like they were shot on film. My question to them is: Why not shoot film then?

Shot on Kodak 400VC Film

Second, film makes you slow down. This is something digital has sort of caused us to take for granted. I can shoot 800+ images on a single memory card so is very easy to get shutter happy! With film, you remember to wait and only hit that shutter during that decisive moment.

Third, it saves time. With shooting slower I know that I was going that extra mile to take everything in consideration before capture. I also know that I wasn’t shutter happy and that my shots are not going to be like a flip book or duplicates. Most importantly, I have a life again to spend time with my family or out doing what I do best and being out on field shooting more.

Fourth, film still has amazing latitude. It captures a wide gamut of dynamic range while still preserving the highlights. It also has a great gradation between the highlight and shadows which can easily be lost in digital files. The result is an image that looks how we saw it and that just makes it that much easier to remissness about special time in your lives when the images were taken.

Fifth, film requires skill… Everyone and their mother can purchase an amazing digital SLR camera that is cheaper and has more features than my old digital cameras. If they just keep clicking then you better believe that they will have some lucky shots that look amazing. But give them a film camera and watch out! I would love to see what their lab bill would be for all those rolls of film for just a couple “keeper” images.

Sixth, film is hella’ fun for me! I swear that I am like a giddy little kid when I get the images back and look at them for the first time. This is something that I don’t get as much with digital because I can just look at the screen on the back.

Lastly, film is different especially in an industry where everyone is using the same photo editing software, buying the same photoshop actions and adding the same effects to their pictures. Everyone’s pictures just end up looking like everyone elses. Now I admit that I am guilty of this myself as well. Don’t get me wrong, the images look great when finished but it eats up time to do this to every picture and you can very easily lose your style and vision. With film, your are left with fresh, clean images that just work right from the start.

The best part of all this is that our photo lab, Richard Photo Lab, scans all our digital negatives for us so we end up with a high rez digital copy of all the shots. That means we can still make tweaks if need be, print enlargements online, throw the pics up on Facebook, Twitter or blog without any hassle… How cool is that???

We have a Nostalgia Collection which is shot entirely on film and is available for anyone who is interested in getting something “different” than the norm.
